a g a p e

[Agape love] is spontaneous. There was nothing of value in the persons loved that called forth such sacrificial love. God of His own free will set His love on us in spite of our enmity and sin. [Agape] is love that is initiated by the lover because he wills to love, not because of the value or lovableness of the person loved. [Agape] is self-giving and is not interested in what it can gain, but in what it can give. It is not bent on satisfying the lover, but on helping the one loved whatever the cost. [Agape] is active and is not mere sentiment cherished in the heart. Nor is it mere words however eloquent. It does involve feeling and may express itself in words, but it is primarily an attitude toward another that moves the will to act in helping to meet the need of the one loved.

"I get worried for young girls sometimes;
I want them to feel that they can be sassy and full and weird and geeky and smart and independent,
and not so withered and shriveled."

IF YOU KNEW YOU COULD NOT FAIL.

May I never be complete.
May I never be content.
May I never be perfect.

Did I say that she was beautiful? I was wrong. Beauty is too tame a notion; it evokes only faces in magazines. A lovely eloquence, a calming symmetry; none of that describes this woman’s face. So perhaps I should assume I cannot do it justice with words. Suffice it to say that it would break your heart to see her; and it would mend what was broken in the same moment; and you would be twice what you’d been before

There are days I drop words of comfort on myself like falling leaves and remember that it is enough to be taken care of by myself.

a sister's beautiful mouth.

"i think we are all like pieces of glass.
i must be a thin clear shard, broken from a window.
kind of fragile, laying in a field of wheat and the sun beats on me.
you are sea glass.
one million different colors on a shoreline.
having been tossed to and fro through the ocean. seen so much. so brave. you are beautiful.
i am a piece of a window, and you are a piece from a bottle or a bud vase.
i like that. pieces of glass being sisters.
so different, but the same.
both glass. made of dust and lightening.
blown to life the same.
i think you are red sea glass my love."
